Neo Cube, it's got nothing to do with the matrix

I have only just come across these things, they seem like the next new toy to incredibly fashionable to have.
They do look quite amazing and the shapes that you can make with them are cool.
The magnetic spheres are made from neodymium magnet, a rare type of earth magnet. It's a "permamnent" magnet and it is made from an alloy of neodymium, iron, and boron to form the Nd₂Fe₁₄B tetragonal crystalline structure (click on tetragonal  for an explanation).
