Darwin On The Origin Of Species.......and Electro Opera

When I left work on Tuesday (27/07) I was heading to the Barbican Centre, the last time I was there I got to see Graham Coxon and a whole load of supporting musicians who performed on his    album.
Now when I was there for Graham we were in and out of the centre but this time I got to walk through from Liverpool street, I was surprised. To be honest Graham was the first time that I had been to the centre. I didn't know that there was housing and gardens within it all. It looked cool, it had a very tranquil feeling to it for something that is situated in the City of London.
It reminded me of a 60's concrete utopia that had been abandoned after a nuclear war; the apartments seemed empty but the garden's were flourishing on their own while the fountains kept pumping green water into the pond. After seeing this thought provoking sight I headed into the centre to watch Tomorrow, in a Year -  Darwin electro-opera. It was another first for me as I had never been to watch an opera especially an electronic one. The opera was based on Charles Darwin's "On The Origin Of Species", and his view of the world during his time travelling around the globe.

"Darwin, time and nature are represented on stage by an opera singer, a pop singer and an actor performing The Knife’s music. Six dancers form the raw material of life. Together with the newest technology in light and sound, our image of the world as a place of incredible variation, similarity and unity is re-discovered."

"The opera presents an image of Darwin that above all reminds us that the world is a place of remarkable similarities and amazing diversity. That over time - tomorrow, in a year, or tomorrow, in a million years - change is inevitable."
